Sustainability is development that meets our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable flooring uses this basic concept to provide you with a safe home and increased indoor air quality, while also protecting the rights and means for our children’s and grandchildren’s communities to flourish.

Indoor Air Quality

Your home should be a safe haven from a world full of pollutants. But chances are, it’s not. EPA studies have shown that interior pollutants can be at least twice as high as they are outside!

What causes indoor air pollution? Many factors contribute, but one of the most significant is chemical offgassing from new carpet or certain aspects of the flooring installation process.

Some of the chemicals associated with flooring include volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), including the carcinogens formaldehyde and benzene, often found in paints, adhesives and finish products. Health effects of VOC exposure include respiratory irritation, asthma, headaches, nausea, and increased risk of cancer, liver and kidney damage, and central nervous system disruption.

As carpet ages, offgassing subsides, but new air quality problems arise. Older carpet often harbors mold spores, dust mites and particulate that can affect your health and that of your family and pets.

That is where environmentally friendly flooring becomes an integral part of maintaining a safe and healthy home. Choosing properly installed, high quality natural flooring allows you to breathe easy by eliminating this major source of hazardous substances in your home.

Quality Selection

We offer a vast selection of flooring options from rapidly renewable resources, including cork and bamboo.

We also use reclaimed wood from a local FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified mill that takes advantage of recycled wood from old barns, warehouses and other wooden structures. Not only is reclaimed lumber a responsible choice, it provides more strength, stability and durability than most new cut lumber due to natural processes from years of environmental exposure.

Unlike traditional lumber products, choosing FSC Certified wood flooring guarantees that your purchase supports proper forest management. This ensures longterm sustainability for surrounding indigenous communities, biodiversity and healthy regeneration of the world’s forests.

Eco Friendly

At Palandro Wood Flooring, we strive to use the most ecofriendly flooring standards possible throughout the entire process of a project. This begins with our use of a highmileage hybrid vehicle for estimates and errands. It continues with the responsible flooring product and its installation process.

Conventional flooring installation tactics and carelessness often compromise indoor air quality. Our process is different. During installation, we use a HEPA air filter vacuum to protect your health. To maintain healthy indoor air quality even further, we use only noVOC or lowVOC adhesives for installation.

When the project is complete, we recycle old product whenever possible. If carpet was taken up before laying the new floor, we recycle it through the nonprofit organization CARE. CARE has been able to divert 1 billion pounds of old carpeting materials from landfills, recycling the product into other carpets or cushions and for use in other industries.

Future Sustainability

Palandro Flooring is continually striving to improve its ecofriendly practices. As a family operated company, we have been instilled with the practices of sustainability from childhood. Our individual needs had to be met while ensuring that each other’s current and future needs would not be compromised; it is the essence of sustainability. We feel that same burden for our society, our environment and the future of both, and are never satisfied in our contributions to sustainable living.

We believe the choices we make can greatly impact the environment, the people in our communities, and the future sustainability of our resources. From sale to completed flooring installation, we are doing our best to meet your needs while respecting the natural environment, and supporting the ability of future generations to meet their needs as well.
